Playa Bijao and Playa La Pacora are located on the Pacific coast of Panama, some 10 kilometers from Rio Hato airport and 130 kilometers from Panama City.
In The Begining
Our starting point is near the exclusive Bijao Beach Club and Residences.
Our trek will take us along the 3 miles of secluded coastline that includes Bijao beach and La Pacora beach.
The Sand
The beach is composed of soft light grey sand mixed with patches of beautiful gleaming black sand.
During peak sun hours, the sand becomes extremely hot. Make sure to bring water shoes when going for a walk or for a swim.
During our stay, the waters were generally calm and inviting.
Although these beaches are public, they are quite clean.
The area’s ecosystem is home to a multitude of bird species.
This area typically receives little rain resulting in these beaches being among the driest on Panama’s Pacific coast.
The Sunrise
Set your alarm clock early in order to watch breathtaking sunrises.
I highly recommend that you make your way to the small fishing village just before the crack of dawn. The fishing boats will provide an incredible setting for your pictures.
At time of filming the tide was low and the waters tranquil. As a result of this, the lowering tide occasionally carved intricate designs in the sand.
Waking up early has it’s privileges. You get to enjoy the beach pretty much for yourself.
The Nature
Don’t you find it messed up that they have to put up these signs on a beach? It’s a no brainer to pick up after yourself and leave only footsteps behind.
Towards the end of the beach is a sand bank that appears at low tide. Don’t forget to check out the awesome designs left in the sand by the receding waters.
There you can watch some pelicans chilling on the rocks.
Watch the herons trying to catch some fish in the shallows as the waters slowly rise to reclaim the sand bank.
Don’t forget to check out some of the beautiful houses that line the beach.
If you time it right, you may just see some of the friendly fishermen coming back with their catch.
We are in luck. We get to see some frigates land in a tree to relax after a morning of fishing.
As the morning progresses, the rising tide continues.
Beach Traffic
As you can see from the tracks, there is frequent ATV traffic on the beach. Although most of the drivers are courteous, I recommend that you keep an eye, and an ear, out for them.
