Ausable Point – Osprey nest and kitesurf on Lake Champlain

Exploring Ausable Point located only a few miles from Ausable Chasm in the state of New York.

On the drive in to Ausable point, the road guides us through part of the Ausable Marsh Wildlife Management Area.  We pass by the marsh teaming with many species of waterfowl.  Moreover, there are a few viewing areas along the way that provide great views of the marsh.  If you are lucky, you may just spot some of the amazing wildlife.  For example, among others, you may just see Great blue herons, Wood ducks, Snapping turtles and even Bald eagles and/or Ospreys.

As a matter of fact, watch as we stumble upon an Osprey nest atop a utility pole.  In fact, we are lucky enough to witness mommy Osprey come home to the nest with spoils from it’s hunt to feed her three babies.  Notably, an Osprey’s wingspan can be as wide as 4 to 6 feet and are quite impressive to see in the air.  They feed primarily on live fish.
