Panama’s Playa Blanca

Panama’s Playa Blanca is located in Rio Hato, on the Pacific coast of Panama, 5 kilometers from Rio Hato airport and 150 kilometers from Panama City.

The Beach

Today, we are going to check out the entire 2.5 kilometer length of Playa Blanca. The beach stretches from the Farallon river to the Hato river.

The beach is composed of light grey sand mixed with patches of beautiful gleaming black sand.

Near the mouth of the Farallon river, at low tide, the beach is littered with a combination of small rocks, seashells and debris.

The Hotels

This section of the beach houses two popular all inclusive hotels. The Playa Blanca Beach Resort as well as the five star Riu Playa Blanca Resort.

If you are planning to go to the Riu Playa Blanca Resort, you will definitely want to check out my detailed review of the hotel by clicking on the link at the end of this video.

Since Panama’s Playa Blanca beech is public, it is somewhat unkempt. Therefore, watch out for horse droppings, especially near the Playa Blanca Resort and the Riu Playa Blanca.

Moreover, keep a close watch on the frequent horse, motocross and ATV traffic on the beach.

The Sand

During peak sun hours, the sand can get excruciatingly hot. For this reason, make sure to bring along sandals or water shoes in order not to burn your feet.

The remainder of the beach mainly houses condo units.  Nevertheless, during our time there, there was pretty much no one on this portion of the beach.

Clean Up

Make sure to leave with your trash. After all, no one likes picking up after you. Help protect our oceans by leaving only footsteps behind.
