24-Hour Lobby Bar

The lobby bar, open round the clock, provides a perfect retreat to unwind after exploring the island.

Spacious Rooms

Our ground-floor room, though spacious and immaculate, had a minor issue with the air conditioning. Nevertheless, the room featured a safety box, a small refrigerator, and reliable high-speed Wi-Fi exceeding 90 Megabits per second.

The room boasted a garden view and a partial glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean, a common feature due to the hotel’s architecture.

Culinary Delights

The culinary offerings at the Riu are diverse, with a pool snack bar, an à la carte restaurant, and a main buffet.

At the buffet, the food, always abundant and of high quality, include vegetarian options. Special mention for the exceptional holiday dinner during our stay.

Beach and Panoramic Views

While the beaches around Madeira are rocky, they usually provide stunning panoramic views. In fact, the beach at the Riu is no exception with it’s small to medium size rocks covering the landscape. Do not despair, a public swimming area, Praia Dos Reis Magos beach, just a short walk away on the promenade, offers an alternative experience.

Resort Layout

The resort’s layout, featuring three pools (including a heated outdoor pool in winter and an indoor pool), ensure a spacious and well-designed environment.

The gym is relatively small but is adequate.

The pool area offers an extensive array of beach chairs, creating a perfect setting for relaxation.

Entertainment

Nightly entertainment primarily comprises of engaging musical shows.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How is the Wifi? Wifi speeds are great all over the resort – I clocked the speed at 90Kbps for both download and upload.
  • How is the food? The food is very diverse. Most is quite good with a special mention for the meat table (available at dinner time) which is, in our opinion, the best part of the meal.
  • How are the alcohol and beer available? The beer is local (Super Bock) and you can pour yourself a glass from the self serve taps or get service at the bar as well. The liquor selection is somewhat limited but caters to most tastes. Only a select amount of mix-drinks are available from a list displayed at the bar.
