Champlain Bridge and other Infrastructure Projects

Come with us on an epic drive as we check out the Champlain Bridge and other infrastructure projects.   We drive by some of North America’s largest infrastructure projects including the Solar Uniquartier in Brossard ($1.3 Billion), REM Light Rail System ($6.3 Billion), Champlain Bridge ($4.2 Billion) and the Turcot Interchange ($3.7 Billion).

The new Champlain bridge will have three lanes in each direction, a bicycle path as well as a section dedicated for public transit (including the new REM Light Rail System).

Everyone knows that Montreal has been long overdue in the modernization of it’s core infrastructures.  Back in 2015, Engineers had warned that Canada’s busiest crossing, the (old) Champlain bridge, required a $123 million dollar investment to address extensive and very urgent structural work in order to prevent an imminent catastrophe.

A few miles further on the highway, the Turcot interchange system was suffering a very similar fate.

Plans for both of these projects had been in the works for decades but the various levels of governments could not come to an agreement on the design, cost structure and financing of the projects until 2015.

The new Chaplain bridge construction project is scheduled for completion in December of 2018.  The Turcot Interchange and REM Light Rail System projects are currently scheduled for completion in 2020.
