Trinidad, Cuba (part 8) – Playa Ancon Beach Excursion

On this episode, we explore the 3 mile stretch of one of Cuba’s very popular Ancon beach and its fine white sand.

We check out the breathtaking views of Ancon beach’s coastline on a catamaran and while sea kayaking.  We also take a bite out of the invasive Lionfish (literally).

Did you know that Lionfish are not native to the Caribbean where they are considered highly invasive? In fact, they have no known predators outside of their native habitat. In 2010, the N.O.A.A. began the “Lionfish as Food” campaign In order to try to help control the population.

We are doing our part by eating our way in controlling this very invasive species. Will you do yours?

Are you planning on staying staying at the Club Amigo Costa Sur, Club Amigo Playa Ancon or the Brisas Trinidad Del Mar hotels in Cuba? Then I definitely recommend traveling via the Jaime Gonzalez airport in Cienfuegos (90 minute drive).  It is a lot closer than the Abel Santamaria airport in Santa Clara (3 hour drive) albeit the drive through Sancti Spiritus is definitely worth the extra time.

While there, make sure to plan a visit Trinidad which has been classified a World Heritage site by Unesco. Oh, and don’t forget to take a trek to the Topes de Collantes or to the El Nicho falls. The Cuban people are extremely friendly and will help make your adventures unforgettable.  Don’t forget to treat yourself to a delicious bottle of Havana Club rum!

You don’t want to run around during your vacation?  Then the incredibly white fine sand of Ancon beach will assuredly keep you under it’s spell.
