Santiago, Cuba – A Taste of Los Corales & Carisol part 3 – Rio Baconao

Today, we refresh ourselves in the beautiful Rio Baconao (river) in Santiago at the midway point of our horseback ride accompanied by Cheno, our Cuban friend.

Our excursion takes us along the beautiful coastline from the Club Amigo Los Corales and Carisol hotels past the pristine Playa Cardenero beach, located close to the Baconao lagoon and surrounded by the magnificent Gran Piedra mountain range only a few miles from Guantanamo Bay.

The Santiago area was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy back in 2012 which destroyed many of the area’s infrastructures, houses (including Cheno’s) and crops.

Santiago is best known as the birthplace of Fidel Castro’s revolution and is also where the Bacardi Rum empire originates from.
